Product variants are the individual purchasable versions of a product — each combination of option values (Color=Red, Size=L) is one variant. Shopify and PrestaShop implement them differently, with different limits and different trade-offs for catalog management at scale.

Variant SEO: what actually matters
Variants do not get individual Google rankings in most cases. The parent product page captures all organic traffic. Focus your SEO effort on the parent title, description and structured data. Make sure variant-specific URLs are either canonicalized to the parent or blocked from indexing.
For Google Shopping, variants are submitted as separate items in the feed, each with their own image, price, availability and GTIN. A clean variant structure directly translates into a clean Shopping feed. Created in France between Annecy and Chantilly, Seegea was built for exactly this — managing thousands of variants across Shopify and PrestaShop without losing your mind.
