Image optimization is the single highest-ROI technical SEO action for most e-commerce stores. It costs zero in infrastructure (no CDN change, no theme rewrite), takes a few hours to apply at catalog scale with the right tool, and produces measurable LCP improvements within 24 hours of deployment.

Why not just use Shopify's automatic image optimization?
Shopify automatically serves images in WebP to browsers that support it — since 2020. So why does optimization still matter?
- Shopify converts to WebP but does not resize. A 4000×4000 JPEG uploaded as source is served as a 4000×4000 WebP — still massive.
- Shopify does not strip EXIF metadata unless you use a third-party app.
- Shopify does not compress during upload beyond a basic quality threshold. Start from a 2 MB source, get a 1.8 MB WebP.
The right approach: compress and resize before uploading to Shopify. Seegea does this at scale during import or via the bulk optimization action in the catalog grid.
Built in France between Annecy and Chantilly, Seegea has processed over 500,000 product images and optimized Core Web Vitals for merchants with catalogs from 200 to 80,000 SKUs.
