Sale periods are both an opportunity (clearance, new customer acquisition) and a minefield (regulator compliance, desynchronized Google Shopping feeds, poorly managed successive markdowns). This guide gives you the method to prepare, execute and close a sale period without errors — on Shopify or PrestaShop.
The preparation calendar: W-6 to W-0
W-6: stock audit and selection
W-3: reference price calculation
W-1: markdown configuration
The Omnibus rules for sale periods
- Omnibus directive — the strikethrough price equals the lowest price in the 30 days preceding the first markdown.
- Successive markdowns — each new markdown uses the same reference price as the first (not the price of the previous week).
- Below-cost selling authorized — only during official sale periods (France), on products acquired at least 1 month before the sales start.
- Mandatory disclosure — both the discount rate and the reference (crossed-out) price must be clearly displayed on each discounted product.

Sale periods and Google Shopping: the desync trap
During sales, your prices change fast. The Google Shopping feed must follow within the hour — otherwise your ads show prices different from your site, Merchant Center suspends listings, and your Google Ads budget is wasted.
Seegea pushes each modification directly to Shopify or PrestaShop. Google Shopping sync then depends on your Merchant Center configuration (refresh frequency). For sale periods, configure hourly refresh as a minimum.
Built in France, for e-commerce teams managing official sale periods
French official sale periods have specific legal requirements. Seegea was designed with these constraints in mind — between Annecy and Chantilly — by a team that prepared their own sales before building this tool. Human support available during sale periods, response within 24 hours.
