Meta title: the tag that drives 30% of your organic CTR

The meta title — also called the title tag — is the HTML tag displayed as the blue clickable link in Google results. It is both a strong ranking signal and the first piece of copywriting that drives the click. On a 3,000-product catalog, writing 3,000 optimized titles manually is unthinkable without a method.

The meta title is the most influential HTML tag for your Google ranking. In 50 to 60 characters, it must contain your keyword, differentiate your page from competitors, and trigger the click. On a 3,000-product catalog, optimizing every title without a template is simply not feasible.

The 2026 meta title rules

  • Length: 50 to 60 characters (~600 pixels). Beyond: truncation.
  • Main keyword: ideally in the first 30 characters.
  • Uniqueness: every page must have a unique title on the site.
  • H1 alignment: title and H1 should target the same query, without being identical.
  • No keyword stuffing: "Sneakers Running Sneakers Sport" — Google filters it.

Product page

[Brand] [Product] [Main attribute] | [Store]

Example: Salomon XT-6 Women Trail Black | RunningPro (43 chars ✓)

Category page

[Product] [Attribute] — [N] items | [Store]

Example: Women Trail Running Shoes — 280 items | RunningPro (51 chars ✓)

Keyword first in the title

Google reads the title left-to-right. A keyword in the first 30 characters weighs more than one at the end. On mobile, only the first ~45 characters are guaranteed visible.

Differentiating attribute required

On a multi-brand catalog, "Trail Running Shoes | RunningPro" and "Trail Running Shoes | SportMag" look identical. The attribute (color, gender, size, material) differentiates and answers the long-tail query.

Brand at the end, not the beginning

Unless the brand itself is the searched keyword (Nike, Apple), put the store name at the end of the title after a pipe or dash. This frees 10-15 characters for informative content.

If Google rewrites your title, it is often because your H1 and your title target different queries. Align them: same intent, complementary formulations.

FAQ

Google displays about 600 pixels of title in SERPs, roughly 50 to 60 characters for a standard font. Beyond that, the title is truncated. Below 40 characters, you leave available space for additional keywords.
